Kurt Donald Cobain, né le 20 février 1967 à Aberdeen et mort le 5 avril 1994 à Seattle, est un musicien, artiste, chanteur, auteur-compositeur et guitariste américain. Il forme son groupe Nirvana en 1987 avec Krist Novoselic dans lequel il est le chanteur et le guitariste.

En deux ans, le groupe devient un pilier de la scène grunge de Seattle alors en pleine émergence, notamment avec la sortie du titre Smells Like Teen Spirit en 1991, tiré de Nevermind, leur second album. Durant les dernières années de sa vie, Kurt Cobain lutte contre sa dépendance à l'héroïne et subit avec son épouse Courtney Love une importante pression médiatique. Le 8 avril 1994, il est retrouvé mort dans sa maison à Seattle. Il s'est suicidé d'une balle dans la tête trois jours plus tôt. Cependant, quelques théories ont tenté de démontrer qu'il pourrait s'agir d'un homicide.
